09/21/15 A Feedback Loop – Podcast Album Review (Ontario)

“Dig into The Honeyrunners, a Toronto-based rock and roll 4-piece that puts the classic in classic rock (think driving kick drums and killer organ foundations), while somehow managing to be timeless.” –Jesse Daly, A Feedback Loop (Listen)

02/07/15 Deli Magazine – Album Review (NYC)

“An infectious mixture of Motown, neo-punk, soul, rhythm and blues. Recorded live off the floor, they display talents of vibrant harmonies and soulful hooks with foot stompin’ gritThis quartet is super tight, you can feel how committed they are to owning their sound.” –The Deli Mag (read more)

12/18/14 Niji Magazine – Album Review (Toronto)

“All-in-all, it can be said that this EP is, by far, one of the most impressive records that I’ve heard from an up-and-coming rock group, and future projects from this gifted quartet is highly anticipated. If you’re a fan of soulful, groovy rock ‘n’ roll, EP 2 is an absolute must-have.” –Brandon Schiafone, Niji Magazine (read more)

11/10/14 PopMatters – “Under Control” Video Premiere (International)

The spirit of the Black Crowes is alive and well with this young outfit, whose latest outing, EP 2, features the driving number “Under Control”. On its own, the song is a real jam, with staccato riffs building up a tense mood. The tension builds even more, however, in the song’s video, which opens with a man being knelt down, just about to be shot, and then…well, for that, you’ll just have to watch the rest. Brice Ezell, PopMatters (read more)

11/06/14 Gadfly – Album Review (International)

“One word comes to mind when I listen to this EP – warm. These five songs are a splash of whiskey on the tongue, the heat of a bonfire on a brisk autumn night. The warmth emanating from this EP is no doubt a result of its bluesy, old school vibe, evoking a sense of the past while maintaining modern energy and addictive hooks. You can get up and dance or you can throw back a drink with your buddies, but this EP needs to be playing in the background.”-Alisson Bohan, Gadfly (read more)

11/04/14 PopDose – Best EPs of Fall 2014 (International)

“They serve up heaps of harmonies, southern fried guitars, gospel euphoria and more hooks than a trout fisherman in Tennessee…The only shocking thing about these roots and blues fed good old southern boys is they’re from the Great White North…Imagine vintage Black Crowes or the Allman Brothers drenched in modern soul ala one of my favorite UK acts, The Heavy.” –Keith Creighton, PopDose (read more)

10/02/14 Indie-Music.com – Album Review (US)

There’s a little bit of everything here, from four-part harmonies that evoke a gospel to the fantastically loquacious guitar lines and the ever-present warm tones of the keyboards. There’s nothing subtle about The Honeyrunners, and that’s a good thing. This is vibrant, soulful, crowd-pleasing music guaranteed to get your foot stomping. If you aren’t singing along with the harmonies by the end of EP2, you’re probably made of stone. It’s difficult not to connect with a band that’s not holding anything back. Heidi Drockelman, Indie-Music.com (read more)

09/09/14 The Voice Magazine – Interview w/ The Honeyrunners (Edmonton, Alberta)

The Honeyrunners are a Canadian band that plays rock and roll spiced up with Motown, neo-punk, soul, and rhythm-and-blues. Their first single, Jet Set,” was featured in a Bacardi ad campaign and their “My Garage” became part of Coca-Cola’s project 52 Songs of Happiness. They’re currently touring their new EP, titled EP II. Recently the band’s keyboardist-vocalist, Dan Dwoskin, took the time to answer Wanda Waterman’s questions about the band’s musical influences. Wanda Waterman, The Voice Mag (read more)

09/08/14 The Indie Mine – Album of the Month (international)

What they completely fail to hide is the amount of craft and skill that goes into a nearly perfect set of songs on their second barely-titled EP. Seamless four-part harmonies make way only for Marcus Bucci’s lyrical, conversational guitar, and everything is held together in a warm gospel embrace by Dan Dwoskin’s earthy keyboards. I dare you not to listen to the track “Hold Me” without looking for someone to pull close. Kendrick, The Indie Mine (read more)

09/04/14 Eat Sleep Breathe Music – Song of the Day “Under Control” (NY & NJ – Tristate area, US)

“This quartet packs a punch with their twist on modern soul. They give rock a new name with their infectious mix of gritty, foot stomping, rockalicious sound.” E.S.B.M. (read more)

08/13/14 Vents Magazine (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)

“The group creates infectious melodies fraught with savory harmonies, uplifting cadences and earthy grit, as exemplified by their first two releases in an ongoing series of EPs. Already garnering attention with their 10 songs currently available, it’s only a matter of time that The Honeyrunners will see international buzz as their catalog expands.” -Rafael Jóvine (read more)

05/12/14 T-Mak World | Canadian Music Week 2014 (Toronto, ON)

“The Honeyrunners played a heavier set than we have seen them play in the past, especially at last year’s Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival. This shows the diversity of the band as they can play a set with a more folky sound and can also go and play heavier rock, including a great cover of Led Zep’s Ramble On.” –Steve Mallinson (read more) – from Horseshoe Tavern 05/09/14, ft. King Khan & BBQ Show, The Balconies, Head of the Herd, The Damn Truth, and more.

03/24/14 The Revue | Mundo Musique (Ottawa, ON)

“The scruffy quartet have a sound reminiscent of classic rock bands, such as The Black Crowes and pre-MTV Aerosmith. The Honeyrunners are in the midst of producing a second album, which will come out this summer. Their teaser of the album indicates it will continue to provide a modern spin to southern rock. There’s definitely talent in this band, and their next album will be worth checking out later this year.” –Ben Yung (read more)

03/21/14 A Music Blog, Yea? (Toronto, ON)

“The Honeyrunners’ energy is as evident on stage as it was during their interview. There’s a level of soul, an attitude that permeates the music and physically affects the crowd, and one that can certainly be felt anywhere in the building. The show itself was immediately magnetic.” –Emily Fox (read more)

03/21/14 Coca-Cola (International)

“The next band to feature is The Honeyrunners, a four-piece band from Toronto, who mix the best of rock and soul into a sound that’s made them one of the city’s most popular local acts. Their fantastic new track ‘My Garage (Bang Bang)’ is a welcome addition to our 52 Songs Of Happiness.” –Coca-Cola, ’52 Songs Of Happiness’ (read more)

09/15/13 My Random Jukebox (London, UK)

“I love the upbeat feel that their music delivers during EP2, supported by some great vocals and harmonies. This infectious combination can be heard through this EP which delivers an all killer no filler soulful rock sound. No track demonstrates this more than ‘River Song’ which gives you something special with its combination of retro gospel meets indie rock. The start of the song feels like it should be on the soundtrack from O Brother Where art Thou?, before they kick in with their cool style of indie rock. Everything about this song sounds amazing but it is the vocals that strike me the most as they are filled with so much soul with a bit of rock attitude. You will be guessing right if you are think this is my favourite song from EP2. To be fair, each track is on top of its game but this one feels like a giant amongst men.” –James Wilson (read more)

05/20/13 Open ‘Til Midnight (Toronto, ON)

“They’re a tight four-piece layering keys, riffs and bam-pow drums to keep toes tapping and hips in sway (and not even a broken foot can keep their drummer down – that’s hardcore, friends). There’s just enough retro vibe to impress without ever sounding dated: see the delicious “Jet Set” or “Spirits” for the epitome of this.” –Amber Waves (read more)

05/04/13 Toronto Rhapcity (Toronto, ON)

“I’m listening to “Jet Set,” the opening track to The Honeyrunners’ self-titled EP, and I keep forgetting that I’m supposed to be putting words on the screen. The Honeyrunners [EP] is so great that they make you want to stop whatever the hell you’re doing and just dance like a fool.” –Uri Mendoza (read more)

04/20/13 The Scene Magazine (Toronto, ON)

“This music is much more than a recreation of a classic sound. It is a seamless amalgam of various genres which have now become this new form of current pop music. When I hear music of that caliber being performed today, it gives me hope for the future of the music industry. These guys are a tight and cohesive unit. Of course they also each contribute distinct and identifiable creative aspects, which form this unique yet classic sound. Marcus Bucci’s (guitar/vox) solos sounds like they are right out of the 70′s, a la The Allman Brothers or Steve Miller Band or Neil Young, his tone is bright, punchy and bluesy. Dan Dwoskin’s (keys/lead vox) Wurly has a sound which was born somewhere in between The Funk Brothers’ late great Earl Van Dyke and early Ray Charles, while his vocals have deep classic pop sensibilities and soulful passion. The rhythm section is comprised of Brandon Robins (drums/vox) and Mike Bolton (bass/vox); it is both epic, dancy and perfectly composed for optimal embellishment of this polished new, funky soul genre.” –Gideon Greenbaum-Shinder (read more)

02/22/13 Amber Waves (Ontario)

“Toronto band The Honeyrunners evoke what I feel would happen if Blind Melon and the Blues Brothers had a wild, raucous party and emerged parents of musically-inclined children with a love of Stevie Wonder circa Superstitious. Bluesy grit, hook-heavy pop and a little twist of church-blessed harmonies come together in a hip-shaking tune that evokes a late summer beach party. I’m warmer already!” –Amber Waves (read more)
